Oh, I *KNOW*! Isn’t it awful? I was shocked. I suppose this is the part where things *really* start to take the Big downward, dark turn in Narbonic. Yikes…
I *liked* Lovelace……….
Yeah. I mean… the optimist in me was hoping things wouldn’t plunge quite so dark, but we’ve hopped right off the spiral and into the abyss.
Now, admittedly, death in Narbonic isn’t always final, but that could just be the Dave/Lovelace shipper (is that the term?) in me.
These things happen. Kinda sucks, but they happen. Still, I can’t imagine Madblood doesn’t have Lovelace backed up somewhere.
Yeah, it was really sad. And I heard the wistful “I wish I knew just one person who wasn’t evil.” echoing in my head. Poor Lovelace, we have the first really good character biting the dust.
She may well be good, though she is the creation of a mad scientist. But what she definitely is is an innocent, even more so than Artie is.
And that, I think, is the true tragedy.
Yeah.
Plus, she looked and talked like Jennifer Connelly.
…yeah.
And I dunno if Madblood would have Lovelace backed up somewhere. The reason Dave deleted her was because she took up most of the computer in the entire base. It takes lots of power to store an entire personality AI, I would imagine.
I’d *love* to hold out hope that she’s still alive, but I don’t know if that’s possible. And getting my hopes up is probably not a good idea.
Yeah, but that’s when it’s running. My computer has a hard time running photoshop, and it takes up a lot of space on the hard drive, but not so much that it doesn’t fit on a disk. Lovelace could probably fit on an external hard drive somewhere.
Wherever she is, she’s probably zipped.
But even if there’s a back up of her program somewhere, she won’t be Lovelace. She won’t be lovalace any more than Dave’s clone is Dave. Her experiences with being the mad scientist’s long suffering sidekick, with surreptitiously planning to betray Madblood, her almost-romance with Dave, her cute longing to take out revenge on Helen. All of these things make Lovelace Lovelace, and even if there was a new program with the same looks and voice as Jennifer Conelly, it’ll never be the same.
And so much for hopes of Future-Dave being nuetral.
The other question is- does he ever get a body? All that we saw of future-Dave was his hologram.
That very well be the punchline — all we have is the hologram’s word that it’s a recording, right?
That’s true. And the hologram *did* respond very accurately to Dave’s questsion. It was played for humor, but maybe it was because Dave was actually *responding*.
…but wait. Isn’t there a little part where Past-Dave tells Mel that he’s Future-Dave, and grabs her and pulls her as he’s going somewhere, and she doesn’t pick up on it? A hologram wouldn’t be able to do that.
I think he has a body.
But, yes, Lovelace is probably gone.

Yeah, even though I know there are plenty of ways that Lovelace could be recovered… her departure felt rather final.
And, in the end, I’d rather accept her as gone, and be pleasantly surprised if she does return, then to hold out hope and be let down.
Exactly.
